El Fanous West
El Fanous West dive site is located approximately 30 minutes away from Hurghada by boat. The reef itself is about 300 meters long and extends on the west side. When starting the dive from the boat, the reef will be on the right side. The depth under the boat is around 7 meters. A canal must be passed through before reaching a sandy lagoon. While crossing the lagoon in a north-west direction, small coral pinnacles can be seen. Upon reaching the northern edge of the lagoon, divers will continue north to an erg covered with hard corals. The return to the boat is on the other side of the lagoon, with another main reef on the left side. Fanous West is an ideal dive site for all levels of divers and is suitable for training sessions. The site gets its name from the beacon perched on top of the main reef. On the east side of the site, there is a shallow wall emerging from a sloping sandy bottom, decorated with coral blocks and pinnacles. Two attractive ergs rise from the sea floor, densely carpeted with soft corals. Dolphins can often be encountered near Fanous East, and the pinnacles are a battleground for jackfish and lionfish. Turtles can be spotted feeding in coral gardens at Fanous West. The site offers ideal diving conditions and a variety of marine life, including giant moray eels, silversides, and jackfish. Triggerfish nesting can be observed in August and September.
