
Shaab Abu Nugar
Shaab Abu Nugar near Hurghada is a rich dive site with diverse marine life and several cleaning stations. The colorful corals are in pristine condition in many areas. It is one of the most northern dive sites of Hurghada, about a 90-minute sail from El Gouna. This site is suitable for all levels of diving and training. While the sailing can be rough in windy conditions, there are protected moorings available. The reef network at Shaab Abu Nugar offers a mix of attractive and less appealing areas. The three ergs north of the tongue are particularly magical and worth exploring. The diving environments include Torfa Abu Nugar in the north with a delicate coral garden, the oval-shaped Gota Abu Nugar reef to the east, and the exciting tour from one pinnacle to the other at Erug Abu Nugar in the south. Abu Nugar is a mid-sized reef with various dive sites all around. The main reef emerges from a sandy bottom with dispersed coral gardens and pinnacles. Torfa Abu Nugar in the north features an exquisite coral garden, while the elliptical reef at Gota Abu Nugar to the east allows for a full exploration in one dive. The south of the reef, Erg Abu Nugar, offers an impressive string of pinnacles on a sandy bottom adorned with coral rocks. Abu Nugar has five dive sites, with Shaab Iris and Abu Nugar being the finest. The reef is mainly composed of hard corals, including table corals and gorgonians. It is important to avoid making contact with the marine life at Abu Nugar.
