Bubble-tip Anemone
Entacmaea quadricolor
Host anemone for Red Sea anemonefish, with bulbous tentacle tips.
Family
Actiniidae
Avg Size
20-40 cm
Habitat
The bubble-tip anemone is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, including the Red Sea, and appears in several colour morphs such as rose, orange, red, and a standard green. It can reach up to 30 centimetres (about 0.98 ft) across and draws most of its energy from sunlight via the symbiotic zooxanthellae living within it. A defining trait is its partnership with anemonefish, which it hosts by offering shelter and protection from predators and which in turn provides the anemone with some nourishment.
