Habitat

The tomato hind is found on deep lagoon reefs, outer reef slopes, and coastal areas with rocky substrate, typically at moderate depths of 30 to 100 m (98 to 332 ft). Juveniles usually stay close to sponge or coral heads.

Behaviour

A solitary species, the adult is often accompanied by cleaner shrimps and preys on small fishes and crustaceans. Males reach maturity at about 34 cm (13 in) and females at around 28 cm (11 in).
