Moses Sole
Pardachirus marmoratus
The Moses sole, also called the finless sole, speckled sole, or Red Sea Moses sole, is a flatfish native to the western Indian Ocean.
Family
Soleidae
Avg Size
20-26 cm
Habitat
It ranges through the western Indian Ocean from the Red Sea to Sri Lanka and down Africa's east coast to Durban. The species inhabits shallow coastal waters over sandy or muddy seabeds, often near coral reefs, where it preys mainly on bottom-dwelling invertebrates. It frequently lies buried in the sand during the day with only its eyes and nostrils exposed, and despite the toxin it secretes, it is caught and sold fresh for food.
