Pygmy Sweeper
Parapriacanthus ransonneti
Pygmy sweepers belong to a genus of sweepers native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific. They are bioluminescent, using light organs on the underside of the body for counter-illumination. Notably, the luciferase enzyme behind their glow is a kleptoprotein acquired through their diet of bioluminescent ostracods.
