Habitat
The redmouth grouper is a tropical fish of coastal reefs and lagoons, also recorded over silty bottoms and in and around caves and crevices in the reef. It occupies depths from 1 to 60 m (3.3 to 197 ft), and its small juveniles mimic angelfish of the genus Centropyge.
Behaviour
A predator, the redmouth grouper feeds mainly on small fishes, including Pempheris species, along with stomatopods and other crustaceans. It spawns year-round and reaches sexual maturity at about 35 cm (14 in) in standard length, though it has not been reported to form spawning aggregations.
